Rezzonico is located in the Province of Como in the Italian region of Lombardy. It lies on the north-west shore of the lake and has a population of approximately 1100 people. The nearest large town is Menaggio, which is about 10 minutes drive to the south.
There is a castle on the lake side of Rezzonico which dominates the village, that was built by Pope Clements XIII family in the XIV century. Many years ago, wealthy Milanese families used to use this location as their main summer retreat, which is testament to the beauty of the area. Rezzonico is a really delightful little village with winding narrow cobbled streets, in between the ancient houses with their elegant portals and portico's, where fishermen spread out and repair their nets. There are a few restaurants, a small supermarket, bank and a pharmacy. A small market is held on a Wednesday, every two weeks, which makes for a great atmosphere. There are numerous picturesque spots and secluded beaches along the shoreline, ideal for those family picnics. There are many facilities for sporting enthusiasts in the surrounding area including, sailing, swimming, fishing, skiing, windsurfing, golf, walking and climbing. For the less energetic, the area has beautiful Villas to visit and wonderful gardens, abundant with magnificent flowers and shrubs. | |
